BI - People & Machines
Countless are the uses which machine has conferred upon man. For example, machine has helped in making man modern and civilized. Machine always brings precision and accuracy into making of articles.
Machine-made articles are also fairly cheaper than those of human handiwork. This is evident from the fact that the human hand requires plenty of time in preparing an article, machine, on the other hand, requires considerably less time. Machines turn out articles in an astonishingly short period.
Machine has reduced the toil and sweat of the laborer. Formerly, when there were no machines, human beings had to work breathlessly in the severities of weather to produce articles. Some articles need tempering under too high or too low temperature. Machine produce numerous articles while a human being, unaided by machine, can produces only very little. However, a machine, attended to by only one man can produce several articles without any difficulty. The attendant is there only to regulate the working of machine. He has not to undergo any stresses or strains which man had to bear formerly. Thus, man has benefited much on this score.
Advance countries send technical experts to less advanced or undeveloped countries for manning technical or teaching posts. Machine thus provides the wherewithal for an emotional amity and co-operation.
Again, machine is responsible for progress and prosperity in the present-day world. It is well-known that countries, which have taken a lead in the matter of machine, are fare ahead of others. Russia, the U.S.A., the U.K., and some other western countries have become considerably advanced, only because of the great progress in scientific and technical spheres. They have taken strides during the twentieth century in the field of machine. Machine is thus the source of wealth and prosperity and helps in eradicating poverty and misery. It is for this reason that western countries are prosperous.
But machine has done a great damage, too, to mankind. It is chiefly machine that is responsible for materialism which m arks the present-day world. The idea is that machine had led man to become very materialistic and forgetful of other human qualities. Money has become the be-all and end-all of everything. Man is now a selfish, arrogant and snobbish creature, forgetful of the misery of fellow human beings. Human values like courtesy, helpful attitude, pity and sympathy have gradually gone into the background.
Machine has led to disputes between man and man. Every man now wants to a mass wealth by harassing and exploiting others to the best of his capacity. The modern capitalist, for example, wishes to victimize his labourers to the utmost. Labour-capitalist conflicts are quite well known to the present day world. However, the worst evil of machine is that it has made the rich richer, and the laborer very poor and this lacuna is a threat as it will expand.
Since machine has generally led to prosperity and awakening and has given man the time for other pursuits, man has taken more interest in politics. This is evident from the history of mankind during the past one or two centuries.
Machine is highly responsible for the evil of unemployment that prevails now. The monster of unemployment refuses to come under control. This is because formerly everybody remained busy in producing some article or the other, but now machine has taken the place of man and, in general, one machine can do as much work as hundreds or thousands of men can do. Machine has also given a death blow to fine arts. Painting, dancing, music and other arts are now fast declining. It is feared that in course of time these valuable human gems will show further decline since man is getting more busy with industrial and mechanical work. Artistic excellences attained by man till now are likely to deteriorate.
The problem is not with the machine: it is with the man who allows
himself to become mechanical.People work on machines all day long. Many of
these people have worked on a single machine for some years. The longer the
people have worked on a single machine, the more they become adept in the use of
the machine. When the time comes for a more advanced machine to be installed,
such as a computer, the worker may not be able to cope with the massive change.
The computer is an example of a new machine that has created new jobs while
driving out workers who were either unwilling or unable to deal with the new
technology. Computers have drastically changed many of the jobs on the market.
Twenty years ago you could leave high school and become a car mechanic without
any knowledge of computers, but now you must have a college degree to do any
car work. The workers need to be able to change and adapt to the new
technology they are confronted with. What would have happened if the early
sailors would not have learned how to use a steam engine? Airplane pilots had
to learn how to fly with jet engines instead of propellers. Navigation, engine
control, oil pressure, and various other components of the vehicle rely on the
computer. Workers can become so mechanical in their job process that they
could do it with their eyes closed, and have actually become a machine
themselves. As technology increases at a rapid pace, workers will not be able
to become mechanical machines at a job.
Over the years, man has come up with countless inventions, each more resourceful than the last. However, as the computer age continues, mankind is threatened. Ridiculous, some may say, but I say look around! The computer has already begun to control so many of the vital functions that man has prided himself upon before. Our lives are now dependent on a computer and what it tells you. Even now, I type this essay on a computer, trusting that it will produce a result far superior to what I can do with my own to hands.
It has been commonly said that the computer can never replace the human brain, for it is humans that created them. Is this a good reason why the computer must be inferior to humans? Even if we just focus on a single creation of man, say the subject of this essay, the computer, there are many ways in which the computer has the edge over man. The computer has the capability to evaluate problems that man can hardly even imagine, let alone approach. Even if a man can calculate the same problems as a computer, the computer can do it faster than he can possibly accomplish. Say this man can calculate as fast as a computer, but can he achieve a 100% rate of accuracy in his calculation? Why do we now go over the human data entry into a computer when a mistake is noticed instead of checking the computer? It is because computers now possess the ability to hold no error in its operation, where mankind has not advanced in this area at all.
BI - Save The Earth
First, the human race is contributing a great deal to the global issues by using natural resources without replenishing the source quickly and abundantly enough. We cut down millions of trees to use for lumber and paper, and it takes many years for them to grow back. During the time it takes for a forest to replenish what are its inhabitants to do? The plants and animals around the world are not damaging the environment; they have to live in an environment that is constantly being disturbed by human existence. Plants and animals are part of the ecological system suffering the effects of humanity. In “A Special Moment in History”, Bill McKibben points out how the waste from a car engine sits in our atmosphere. He says “When [gas] is burned in a car, about five and a half pounds of carbon, in the form of carbon dioxide come spewing out the back…it’s an inevitable byproduct of fossil-fuel combustion” (100) More importantly, this waste will continue to add up, and that will threaten our atmosphere that protects the planet. Humankind created and uses these items and therefore holds the responsibility to ensure these items do not destroy the earth. Plenty of consumer products have been improved in a way that is better for the environment, such as light bulbs. The newer light bulbs are more efficient by using less energy. So why are the old kind still being sold, if we have created a better way? Why is Styrofoam still being produced if we know that it is not biodegradable? It is possible to reuse materials instead of throwing them away. Take any “going green” episode on a do-it-yourself television show for example. They will actually show how to use recycled denim jeans as insulation in a home rather than fiberglass. If the human race is to live on, our way of thinking and living needs to change. If our actions are harmful to the earth or its inhabitants, we have the obligation to find a safe way to create and use our products and technologies.
Second, because the human race has the ability to recognize the state of the world and our effects on the ecosystems, it is our duty to protect what the Earth provides to us. Look at the oceans as an example. If we do not take care of our oceans they will not take care of us in return. According to Jacques Cousteau in “The Bounty of the Sea”, “For if the oceans should die…this would signal the end not only for marine life but for all other animals and planets on this earth, including man.” The earth is home to millions of species, but only one has the intelligence to realize the world around us. There are some people who believe the world will ultimately be destroyed by a massive natural disaster, and therefore do not need to concern themselves with the environment. Perhaps the most common viewpoint among the general public is there is nothing just one person can do about the global threats and therefore does not need to worry about it. This opinion is a huge threat to our global ecology because it means there are not enough people trying to make changes in the way they live. Many environmental experts have researched and evaluated what could be done in order to stop the negative effects that we see happening every day, such as the layer of smog lingering in our atmosphere. Daniel Quinn makes a powerful statement in “A New Renaissance” about the power every person has. He says, “Changing people’s minds is something each of us can do, wherever we are, whoever we are, whatever kind of work we’re doing. Changing minds may not seem like a very dramatic or exciting challenge, but it’s the challenge that the human future depends on” (85). The state of our world in 50 or even 100 years depends on today’s society understanding and using their knowledge in ways not only to nurture themselves but the earth as well. The earth was created in a natural process. Life began with the smallest of species, growing into a massive variety. This process happened on its own, without any help from us. If we are not careful our evolution surely could stop with our help.
Lastly, people must acknowledge Earth as the only planet in this galaxy inhabitable for our species at this time. Although many scientists may be currently researching other planets and moons as an alternative to Earth, right now there is nowhere else for humans to live over a sustained period of time. The human race understands this concept and therefore has the obligation to keep the earth in a livable state for as long as possible. If we do not, then our species is in danger of extinction. As E.O. Wilson states in “Is Humanity Suicidal?”:
“It was all but inevitable…that from the great diversity of large animals, one species or another would eventually gain intelligent control of Earth. That role has fallen to Homo sapiens. Unlike any creature that lived before, we have become a geophysical force, swiftly changing the atmosphere and climate as well as the composition of the world” (115).
It is important that all humans face the challenges of maintaining a healthy earth, together as a whole, while keeping an eye on the future. Everything that happens now will have effects on the environment for years to come. It is our duty to ensure that future generations do not die because there are not enough natural resources to sustain life.
There are some people who believe, to the contrary, the changes the Earth is experiencing is a natural occurrence. Perhaps they believe global warming is a natural state of events, which are the conclusion of the Ice Age. Their ultimate view would be that the species inhabiting this world will evolve based on the changing ecological state of the earth. However, in “A New Renaissance”, Daniel Quinn states, “We’re separate from the environment. The environment is out there, and we’re in here, safe and sound” (81). This is the naive way of thinking that has led to the deterioration of our ecology. Perhaps the Earth is just experiencing the end of the Ice Age, but human actions are a big contributor to accelerating this process and that is why Global Warming is a problem. As science has proven, all things are connected, one affecting another. It is unreasonable for people to believe that they do not have the capability to affect our environment with the daily decisions they make. They absolutely do – the melting northern ice caps are the proof. Everything that people do in their daily lives, no matter how small, contributes to the problem.
The earth’s natural world is home to billions of species. So far only one, humankind, has the intelligence and the means to greatly affect the health of the earth’s many ecosystems. The responsibility to maintain a safe environment falls to the entity with the most control; the human race. We have the obligation to represent all the earth’s species and do nothing to harm them. Parents teach their children to clean up after themselves when they make a mess. Should society apply the same principle to the environment? It is not as though people have the option to relocate to another world and start over again. There is only one Earth, and we get only one chance to get it right. Our future generations depend on it.
Water Pollution
Water pollution has affected many people and animals. Water pollution is
the disposal of garbage into a water stream. Some of the water pollution is from
littering, some water pollution is done by chemical leaks, and others by ships.
Also, There is much information about water pollution. I am going to take that
education on water pollution a step farther; and explain how water pollution
affects us, how it affects marine life, what companies affect it the most, and
what people are doing to help.
There are many causes for water pollution. The main one is plastics. The
reason for that is that plastics take four hundred and fifty years to decompose
in the water. Also many companies use plastic and people throw it in the
waterways. Because water can float and be carried by the wind, it can cause harm
to unsuspecting creatures hundreds of feet from where it was originally dumped.
Such waste includes bags, bottles, cups, straws, cup lids, utensils, six pack
holders, cling wrap, fishing line, bait bags, and floats.
The second highest cause of water pollution is ship waste. Ships used to
take much garbage with them on their ships and dump them. This was very common
until the government took action. They were giving sailors up to one million
dollars fines for disposing waste. Because of that, ships now carry less garbage
with them.
Animals are not the only thing being harmed by water wastes. Fishing
lines, rope, and plastic nets are being caught in the rutter and the engine, but
the ships are not exactly perfect.
The other main cause of water pollution is industrial waste. Industries
do not be harmed by water pollution but the cause much it. Many companies pour
chemicals into the waterways. Some of the businesses that contribute to the
water pollution are businesses that repair and maintain motor vehicles,
electroplate, operate printing and coping equipment, perform dry cleaning and
laundry services, process photographs, operate labs, involve building and
construct roads, provide pest control, preserve wood, and make Furniture.
Water pollution doesn¹t just effect humans, it affects are whole
ecosystem. Birds and marine life are affected by it. More than fifty species of
birds are known to ingest plastic. When they eat plastic, they feel full, so
some of them die of starvation. Algal blooms are another thing that kills marine
life. Algal blooms are sea scum, whale food, and sea sawdust. Algal blooms are
bundles of fine threads, rusty brown, they have a fishy smell, and are common in
August through December.
Water is our main source of our life. We need it to live, drink, bathe,
recreation, manufacturing, and power. We need water for almost everything; if we
don't start cleaning up we will be in big trouble. Bunches of families dispose
of chemicals everyday. It affects us drastically and we depend on it to be clean.
Right now the government is fining people for illegal dumping. But that
is all the government is doing.
People in cities are organizing water pollution groups. A lot of people
are producing fliers and giving them out. The are asking people to adapt a
waterway. In Australia they had a national clean up day and went out to the
ocean and cleaned it up. I think the people are taking this more seriously than
the government.
We need to start cleaning up the water or we will be in big trouble. the
government needs to get active and so does the public.
In some places water pollution is a main concern. The last defense of
water pollution is water treatment. Their are two main reasons for water
treatment. The first one is to protect the public's health. The second one is to
protect the water quality. Most of the waste water comes from industries, homes,
businesses, storm runoff, ground water, and schools. Also sludge is being
treated to remove some of its water. Then it is further processed by stabilizing,
dewatering, and disposal.
If more effort isn't being made the human race will die. Eventually all
the water will be infested and unable to drink out of. We will have no places to
bathe or anything. We will have to do something soon or else we will not make it.
BI - Teenagers
Teenage is a fundamental stage of life that each human being passes through. Some people face this period of their life strongly and positively, while others face many problems and difficulties. This depends on the environment these young adults live in, their parents, their friends, their living conditions, their education, and many other factors. Teenagers face many problems such as becoming addicted to drugs and alcohol, being influenced negatively by their peers, self-image and weight, or even arguments with their parents
Drugs between teenagers is one of the most serious problems, because it causes a change in the behavior of any teenager and a physical change too. Most of the teenagers use alcoholic drinks as a way to escape from their problems. Teenagers might also use them because of their friend's influence. Poor teenagers might use them too, to forget their cold body and hunger. Alcoholism is a society's sickness that affects all people, including teenagers and adults. It is considered as a modern way to have fun. Some teens drink alcohol so they can become popular and well-known in their school. People who drink alcohol think that they can forget their problems and travel far away from reality. I think that drinking alcohol is extremely dreadful because it can turn into a long lasting addiction that can harm you psychologically and physically. In other words, when a person drinks, he/she may lose his/her 5 senses, and won't be able to think.
Most teenagers agree that they will follow a peer's decision rather than their parents'. Peers are more influential in a teen's life and tend to have more power than parents. Peer pressure has always been present and will also always be present. It is not a disease or a crime, it is an influence; either a negative or a positive one. Negative peer pressure is an influence put on a person to do something wrong, or something the person doesn't want to do. This may be stealing, taking drugs, or other dangerous actions. If someone influences you into doing something like this it is considered a negative peer pressure. This is a major problem in most schools all around the world. Teenagers usually feel peer pressure when they feel unpopular between their friends, or when they want to be accepted in a group of other teenagers. The group is a place where one feels accepted, where he can feel good about himself, where he feels secure. It increases his self esteem, and it also enhances his self-image. Unfortunately, teenagers who want to be part of these groups, need to follow certain unpleasant routines, such as stealing, smoking, taking drugs, or drinking alcohol. Many times they do things that they would never have imagined themselves doing before meeting a new group of people. Some teens try to make the "right" decision so others will admire them. Having parents or other responsible adults they can turn to for help or advice is crucial at this point in a teen's life.

Definisi jalur lebar berbeza mengikut Negara.

Rugi besar kalau macam tu. So Maxis buat interest registration dulu, saje nak test the water.
Orang beli sebab phone tu nampak cantik, nampak mahal.
